At Ardent Firework Displays Ltd, as well as your enjoyment, we consider Health and Safety to be of utmost importance. Our high standards are for the safety of you and your guests, as well as for our firing team. We complete a full site survey to assess any potential risks and calculate how to remove them. We therefore reduce the risk of any accidents occurring. CONSIDERING HAVING YOUR OWN DISPLAY ? We have experienced staff on hand who can offer help and guidance in preparing your event. The HSE produce a useful guide HSG14 Giving your own firework display. Some useful hints and tips to ensure you have a safe event. SITE Ensure a minimum of 25m between the fireworks and the spectators. Pay special attention to wind direction. If you decide to have a bonfire ensure it is a minimum of 15m from roads, buildings, railways and public rights of way. Ensure awareness of overhead obstructions such as trees and power lines. INFORM Police, Fire Brigade, Coast Guard, Airports, local Hospitals and farms with animals as neccessary.. CROWD SAFETY Prevent access of spectators to the firing area by 25m using a barrier or fence. Provide a number of stewards to prevent public access. Do not allow spectators to bring their own fireworks or sparklers. Make sure there is equipment available for putting out small fires. LOOKING AFTER THE FIREWORKS Store in a cool dry place until needed. Read instructions carefully prior to the event. Examine the fireworks carefully in advance to ensure no issues. Form a firing plan to be followed. Remember it can rain on the day and polythene bags can be used to cover the fireworks. These can be easily removed prior to lighting. FIRING THE DISPLAY Only allow a minimum number of firers into the firing zone. Firers should wear suitable clothing. Protective hat, goggles and ear protection are advisable as are cotton overalls (not nylon). Never lean over a firework. If a firework fails to ignite then leave it alone for at least 30 minutes. CLEARING UP Keep the firing area clear of spectators until all fireworks have been cleared. Any dud fireworks should be soaked in water for at least 24 hours. Ensure any bonfires are extinguished fully. It is a good idea to return to the site the following morning to make a final inspection. INSURANCE If holding any type of display then it is advisable to seek public liability insurance. HEALTH AND SAFETY ACT Intending organisers of public or semi public displays should be aware of the requirements of the Health and Safety At Work act 1974 which applies not only to the safety of those directly involved but also to the safety of members of the public. Our information is intended only to provide basic guidance, compliance with its recommendations is not necessarily sufficient to meet responsibilities placed by the act on those who are involved in firework displays. |
