We’ve just celebrated New Year’s Eve with a bang to welcome the new turn of a decade and bring 2020 through the door, but there’s another celebration just round the corner.

2020 welcomes the new Chinese New Year, the Year of the Rat, which falls on Saturday January 25 - so why not celebrate with fireworks?

As legend has it and according to mythology, the Chinese New Year began with a fight against a mythical monster called Nián (年) - or as we would best know it the “Year”. Nián would come out once a year on New Year’s Eve to attack and feast on people and animals. Only a beggar dared to fight back against the creature, and one night he decorated all the villagers’ homes in red. That night, when Nián came to battle it stopped short after seeing the red decorations and fires, so it roared back in anger and ran away. The villagers realised the beast feared the colour red, fire and loud sounds, which is why for protection they used red crafts in front of their house, launched big, loud fireworks and lanterns in the sky to ward it off.

The UK is known to enjoy a great spectacle to celebrate the Chinese New Year, and here at Ardent Fireworks, we have the perfect fireworks for your party! Our online store offers many options for organised displays and parties of any size, and we can add optional extras to make your event that bit extra special for the Chinese New Year. You might want a little something special for your garden if you’re embracing a little culture, and with prices starting from as little as £4, we cater for all budgets.
