Whether it's Bonfire Night, New Year's Eve or even 4th July for our American friends across the pond, fireworks are a staple of celebrations across both the calendar and the world. Their bright flashes and exciting colours get many an 'ooh' and an 'aaah', and they date back more than 1000 years ago.

In their most basic form, modern day fireworks are simply made up of a shell, an explosive and a fuse, but fireworks haven't always been the bright, colourful spectacles we've come to know today.

It wasn't until the Italian Renaissance that it was realised that adding charcoal and steel to gunpowder could make yellow and orange, and in the years that followed various different compounds were added to create an array of different hues.

So how do they actually work?

The fuse is lit, which leads to the "lift charge", and this is what launches the firework pod out of the mortar. It's as simple as that. Of course, there are a wide variety of different types of firework to ensure your display is a success! You can view them here.

Here at Ardent Fireworks, we have decades of combined experience in organising firework displays, and we aim to take the stress out of organising the display for your celebration. Get in touch with us today, our friendly team would be happy to discuss your requirements.
